Disney’s epic musical based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel comes to life on the Colonial stage! A lushly scored retelling of a tale of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero. This production is inspired by the 2019 Notre Dame tragic fire and its triumphant reopening.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical with a cast of 70+.

Fun Fact

💡

Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre Dame was originally published in French in 1831 as Notre-Dame de Paris.

Hugo's intention was to highlight the cathedral itself, not any one character. The novel is set in the 1400s, when Notre-Dame was at its peak. Hugo's descriptions of the cathedral in the novel helped to bring public attention to the church's state of disrepair in the 1800s and is credited with helping to save the iconic cathedral.
